Selection Criteria

All materials requested for the application will be considered. Student selection for the Beckman Scholars program will be based on these basic criteria:

  • Research interest and aptitude
  • Written and verbal skills
  • Academic performance
A 4.0 GPA will not automatically guarantee a scholarship; e.g., a student with glowing letters about previous research ability will not necessarily need a perfect academic record to be selected for the Beckman Scholars Program.

Selection

Applications will be reviewed by the Beckman Scholars Director, past Beckman Scholars, and the Beckman Faculty Mentors. Finalists will be interviewed by members of the selection committee before notifications of success are made.

Once selected to be a Beckman Scholar, a student will retain the scholarship as long as he or she continues to excel academically, remains in good academic standing, and his or her research work shows satisfactory progress.
